TMZNS is a time zone converter. The application is an open source project that helps users convert time from all over the world. The user can work with the current time or enter any time they want. Simple data entry fields let users enter specific places and times effortlessly. TMZNS was built using Google’s Closure Library and Compiler. The application presents a list of options as the user enters destinations to help them find a city or country quickly. TMZNS form automatically updates the data as the user makes changes to the location or time. The service is extremely simple and does not include any sharing or bookmarking features. Users simply visit the homepage and enter times and locations to get conversions.Show more screenshots »
TMZNS was constructed by Filip Hracek. Hracek noted a severe problem with the existing free time zone converters available on the web. He hoped to improve what was out there with a user friendly interface and more features. The application has been mentioned on some websites, although it has not yet received tremendous popularity. It is still a work in progress, with a list of shortcomings Hracek plans to address in future updates.
TMZNS isn’t the first application to offer time zone conversions. A simple Google search will produce many alternatives. The application wins in the area of interface. Compared to some of its competitors, TMZNS offers a better user experience. The problem is that the application is in need of significant improvements. Users can only convert times for the current day. The application doesn’t always seem to be accurate. Users can enter the same destination into each location field and the converter doesn’t update the times (which should match).
TMZNS will really win users over in terms of appearance. The application isn’t glamorous or flashy, but it offers a tidy interface with modern elements. Gently colored data entry fields are rounded off, providing a smooth, almost 3D appearance. The homepage itself utilizes a plain black and white color scheme which works well to give the site a professional look accented by a light grid textured background. Users will have no trouble figuring out how to convert times in seconds using TMZNS.
New users are not required to sign up or sign in to use TMZNS. Anyone can visit the homepage and immediately access the time zone converter. There aren’t any features or personalization options included, so requiring an account would only deter some users and slow others down. Users can return as often as they want to convert times. The application also offers access to a Google Chrome add on from the homepage.
TMZNS is available for free. There are no subscription fees, and there really shouldn’t be. The application is nothing more than a time zone converter. Charging for this type of service would only push users to go elsewhere. The free price is just right for the features and functionality included with the application. There are a number of shortcomings that will be addressed in future updates but no indication that TMZNS will be adding a subscription fee or other charge for its services.
TMZNS is ideal for anyone who needs a quick, simple way to convert time between time zones. The service is very simple, which makes it flexible for anyone. No account is required so users don’t have to waste time signing up or logging in. Anyone who needs to find out the time in another part of the world can do so in seconds using TMZNS.
